The total solar eclipse of 2024 will be one of the longest in recent years, nearly four and a half minutes of totality as the moon covers the sun.
I will be participating in a learning journey sponsored by Enlivened Cooperative where we will be observing and experiencing this wonder of nature from a private location near Mazatlan, in Sinaloa, Mexico.
Here is a view of the eclipse as it will be seen in the sky above Mazatlan, which is on the centerline of totality for the eclipse: click here
Here is a link to an interactive map, showing the eclipse path as it crosses Mexico and the USA.
You can also watch a cool video showing the shadow of the moon racing across the Earth during the eclipse here: https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/april-8-2024
When we observe the eclipse in Mazatlan, here is the view of the sky we may see:
Notice that there will be four planets visible - Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Saturn and the stars of the Autumn night sky! This is because these stars are visible in the daytime six months from when they'll be visible at night. The sun is right in the middle of the constellation Pisces, so if this your birth sign, here's your chance to see the sun in your sign!
If you can't see this eclipse in totality, start planning ahead for the next one - here's where the next 10 years of total solar eclipses will take place: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/list-total-solar.html
